Here's a little bit about the album:
Dissociative Blues Vol. 1 was written, recorded, and produced entirely by me, McKinley Yarrington, in an unfinished studio, in a one-stoplight town, in Amish Country PA, during the height of the pandemic in summer of 2020. All of the songs were recorded piece-meal (sometimes even one drum at a time) and Frankensteined back together in Protools, with heavy use of compression, reverb, and distortion. I made the project as more or less a literal deconstruction of the styles of DIY bands I had played in up to that point. I wanted to know how raw, how caveman-brain simplistic I could make a song and still have it be compelling. The project sat unreleased for a number of years. It was kinda just something I'd put on in my car to drive to like once every six months. Maybe work on for a day before putting it back down. It wasn't until 2023, when I really believed in live music again that I decided to dust off the songs, play some shows, and release it.

How it all started:
July, 2020. I give up on Halloween. I sit alone in front of the half-assembled Trident A Range. In the dark. Squinting in the blue light. Fucking patch bay. Getting nowhere. The studio is under construction. Four of us work here. Never at the same time. Different circles. Dave sprays so much germ killer on the light switches that the screws rust out. I replace them. I make a patch. The juke box in the live room pumps Motörhead through my speakers. Got it! I chain smoke two cigarettes and drink a beer. No one here. Who cares. I press record. I run across the unfinished concrete floor. My boots echo in the reverb tank. I sit in front of the drum kit. Behind the U47. Who needs more mics. Who needs more channels. One is fine. One piece at a time. BOOM--BAP-BOOM-BOOM--BAP. I hack out a surf beat. Just enough to loop it. I smile. This could work.
